Used a razor i honed at the meet last night. I had finished it on my Jnat. A natural.stone. Sure feels different from the one Victor did for me finished on synthetics. Not bad, keener or dull just different. So for all who was there that night who were learning to hone this is something to concider. Try both and and see what your face likes better.
Just wanted to share.
After the Meet Up, I realized how far I have to go to enjoy the shaving experience. So,
Yesterday I ordered a Norton Water Stone Kit (220/1000,4000/8000), a Universal Stone Holder, and a Naniwa Sharpening Stone (New Super Stone) (12000 Grit) from Dan at Sharping Supplies. With discount and combined purchase the price was as good as I can find.
Let the honing begin!!
Good luck my friend. Be sure to lap the stones first. Not sure much was said about that at the meet.
I do hope that you have a DMT 325 to lap those stones with as they do not come ready to use on a straight razor. 220 wet and dry sandpaper on a very flat surface will work but it's a pain in the arse! I know as that's how I did my first hones.Quote:

The stone i just got look really flat. And when i put the dmt on them it was very flat but not completely. So dont be fooled. The yellow (8000) was a bit rough at first. After lapping it smoothed right out. You will know what i mean when you put your hands on it and start lapping.

Listen to how when Glen scratches the surfaces with his fingernail- the sound change as Glen works on his lapping. It really smooths out the surface. It makes a Big Difference.
I have the same starter set. The Norton flattening stone worked ok for me, but the DMT 325 that I got recently made a BIG improvement!Quote:

I hope Greg enjoys that razor. I don't have hickies or blood running any more. Just doing down to jaw line. I need to get some hones as I found an orfan at the flee market that needs help
