When you are at work you are on the clock 24 hours a day then?
I grew up on a farm and we were 24 hours a day 7 days a week 52 weeks a year!
8756 hours a year/shift.
Thank goodness the boss didn't get mad if we went fishing on a sunny afternoon!

Correct. I am held captive for 24 hours a day for 21 days. I then get 21days of rest. This off cycle there was quite a bit of surfing. My cousin said with all the time I spend on the water for work he would expect me to head into the bush for my days off, not play on the damn water.. it is an unusual job to say the least, but it works for me. I’m glad I have the time to get to the meet this years. It will be good to meet everyone and hopefully TC and I don’t get into trouble.
With TC as a chaperone you will be in good hands!
Lots of strip clubs in OKC, I worked for one company my whole career and the schedule was 3 on 2 off, or when I was overseas it was 30 on and 21 off. We were on the clock from take off till home. There were some other companies that did their pay like Shaun's, but what they did was pay more per hour, it still worked out the same but we got more overtime because of the hour difference, after your first 2 days of the week you were now getting 128 overtime hours. Now ,m an independent consultant which us by the day rate, but it's still captive till I Go home. Tc
Just a FYI, because I feel like I should.
Saturday I had emergency surgery on my right eye for retina issues, The doctor said about 8 weeks until vision returns to normal. Hopefully it is good enough in time for the meet (I think that it will be)
Most everybody has been here before and knows where everything is, all I am really needed for is to supply the key.
We are lucky to have such a great group of people.
This is my way of warning you that I might be lazier than normal at this years meet. :) See you soon
Hope the recovery goes quickly!
I had a torn retina once. You can still see the spot welds the laser left. It took about 8 years for all the blood droplets to clear.
Hey Randy is Lynn, Howard Clark or Mike Blue coming?
Bill
In a heat treating converstiaon with Howard, I asked about the meet. It's doubtful. He is behind on orders, had a few weeks of sickness, and the such. He said doubtful, but would not rule it completely out.
Charlie,
Best wishes and a speedy recovery.
All you should have to do is open the shop anyway!
Pete <:-}
Heal up quickly Charlie, hope the x-ray vision is a success!
Lynn told me he is not coming, and Mike Blue has a couple of issues he has to deal with shortly before the meet that make me doubt he will be there. But I'll ask him to be sure.
Charlie, that stinks about the eye surgery, do you have to rest both eyes for the next 8 weeks so one doesn't damage the other? or can you keep busy studying and planning all the stuff you will do after it heals with the good one?
either way, I hope it heals quickly and without complications.
Charlie, I heal fast and look after your lookers. For as important as they are they are kind of delicate.
One eye is just fine, after the the first week or so I can do whatever I feel like.
They drained the fluid out of the eye they worked on and filled it with gas, depending on what gas they use determines how long until the eye replaces the fluid and dissipates the gas. The gas they filled mine with is supposed to stay in there for about 8wks. The gas in the eye makes for crappy vision until it is gone.
It is a mundane normal procedure, I am probably making mountains out of molehills.
Maybe I am just being a whiney ass, this is all new to me, and I was stressed about the meet and the unknown.
I normally do not like putting personal information on the forums, but I thought that it might have an effect on the meet.
It will all work out.
I am done with whining now,
Which eye is it? Maybe you can pair up with Tc.:hmmm:
I'm sure if I was to have a doctor tell me that they were going to drain the fluid out of my eye and replace it with gas, id freak out also, at least a little bit, or maybe more than a little bit.
on one hand that sounds like not such a good time, but on the other hand, the idea that they can do that sort of thing, and that they consider it pretty mundane is pretty amazing.
Hope things go well and it sounds like they will. Think about yourself first.
For some reason setting up a forge and an anvil in the parking lot of the Twilite just popped into my mind......:rofl2:
I just heard form Mike. He won't be able to attend, much to his regrets.
Ok. The very last puzzle piece has fallen into place. I have had my bookings for some time, however my passport renewal was off in the passport office for a while. It has arrived. I now have everything. Now what to pack. Glasses, safety glasses, leather apron, safety shoes, anything else?
Thank you Tom. Safety first.
If you forget a respirator the hardware store in Burkburnett sells them....:o
P.S. probably cheaper than packing one.
I have several already. I use one often in the wood shop, and a lot at work too.
Charlie's shop is only heated by the forge, so dress for the weather. We have been fortunate most of the time and no real cold stuff. Just your personal PPE and you are good to go. If you have a pair of gloves, you might bring them.
Scott summed it up pretty good, no heat, concrete floor can get cold after a while. Wool socks are my friend.
If you are driving I would bring a chair or two, maybe a portable table.
If you are going to be forging bring some clothes and shoes that can stand some some sparks and some heat. Natural fiber clothes and jackets are the best, leather the best for shoes. Hot metal and man made fibers are a dangerous combination. It sucks getting burned it sucks worse when you get burned and you clothes or shoes melt and stick to you also.
I will have some safety glasses, ear plugs, dust mask on hand.
There are not any fancy tools or equipment in my shop, I have just enough to get the job the done and little else. The one thing I have is space.
The meet is definitely people-centric it is the people that make the meet. We have a great group of folks.
Time is flying!
T- Minus 3 weeks and counting.
Hotel Reservation : Check
Airline Tickets : Check
Rental Car Reserved : Check
All systems Go!
Can't wait to see everyone.
Pete <:-}
Hotel????
All the good stuff happens at the Twilite!
My tickets, Esta, passport international drivers license, etc are all in order.
I'll probably print everything i triplicate and keep one set in my luggage, one in my backpack, and the other in my jacket. Because I am paranoid about losing anything. International drivers license is not really necessary because I don't plan to do any driving. But shooting ranges tend to ask something they can hold on to whil you're inside, and I'd rather no leave my passport anywhere but on my body.
Definitely looking forward to seeing everybody. I'll bring 2 wootz razors, I think 2 carbon steel razors, 1 mosaic damascus, and I think 1 little kitchen knife made from a wootz end cut.
Also looking forward to US made hamburgers in all their variations while I am on the road. :D
Too bad Howard can't deliver your meteor to the meet. We've got to come up with something to get him back down there.:hmmm:
Aww man, you guys are going to be forging at the meet as well!:cry::banghead::banghead::aargh:
Sounds like a good time with some good folks. Wish I could come.
Forging always has been a big part of it.
That, and alcohol.
:)
