Oh i understand that part Bruno. I was just wondering about the cost of the steal. Like are we talk8ng 10 bucks or 40 bucks or more just in money for the materail on a blade. And of course with different types of material and layers and such its going to change too. Just curious i guess. And of course you cant buy just the size you need so being a plate much bigger to start with devided by the amount of blades you can get. Its all french to me right now. Maybe next year ill make the meet and learn something.

I have no idea, but I was told that Alfred charged something like 200$ per inch for the bar stock of his wootz.
And a piece of mosaic Damascus like that billet Ed Schempp made for me with my logo is was a couple thousand for the billet.
The cost of the source materials doesn't really factor into things all that much.

I don't know if we have a decision or not, but any of the thicknesses would work if the width matches the 1095. Victor how about 0.072 ?
And what thickness do we have in 1095?

For what I'm doing 1/8" 15N20 pairs well with 1/4" 1095. That's why I wanted to TRY 1/8" 1095 with my 1/16" 15N20.

I just wanted to try the thinner stock to see if it would work for higher layer count billets. I would advise against buying very much of the thin stock until we find out that this is a viable option, because if it is hard to use it will be nearly useless.

For the meet the thick stock is not a problem as strikers are easy to come by.

@Randy: let's go with 1/8 then, because we know we're safe with that.

At 7 am this morning the temperature was a chilly -13F with a windchill of -33F. !

We are going to want some 1/4" 1095 also for people doing mono steel razors.
