Minnesota/ Wisconsin Spring meeting
I am missing the idea of going to Rolodaves for a meetup in the near future and thinking what can be done.
Is any one interested in trying out a meetup with a program like Zoom or whatever to get together for a short while?
Different options out there.
I know it would not be the same as meeting in person but does anyone want it a try and seeing how it would work?

Big Shave S'West did this on the date that it was scheduled to happen in the flesh. I tuned in for a while, but had poor bandwidth so I left early. For the time that I was on line it seemed extremely shallow with most people just saying hello to one another. A lot of people had fancy computer generated back rounds and I actually felt a bit silly just sitting in my living room, like I had turned up at a black tie gathering wearing an old T-shirt.
I never talked to anyone else who was involved after the fact, so it is possible that others had a better experience. Likely actually.Last edited by bluesman7; 04-25-2020 at 03:54 PM.

You bring up a good point Victor.
There would have to be a reason or subject other than just saying HI.
What got me thinking about this is a group that my wife plays cards with has been meeting and playing together online recently and it has been working well for them.
Maybe a real time demo or everyone gets a 5 minute turn to show their latest project or acquisition?

I've run a local chess club that has met weekly for over 12 years. We have moved to online playing at the same time as our normal meet up.
It's working OK, but it's just not the same. I doubt that the club will survive for very long without getting back to over the board, face to face, meet ups. Not sure any of this really applies hence the off topic warning.

From my experience, everyone usually brings a project to work on at a meet and spends 3/4's of the time chewing the fat. It would be less motivating to spend 2 or 3 days infront of a computer, but a weekly or monthly video meet and greet seems like a nice idea. I have a couple razors that I would like to rehone and bring back into the rotation.
My friends and I have been using a free program called Discord to organize game nights, chat and share photos. Through work, we have been using Windows Teams, not nearly as responsive nor customizable as discord but it is free and comes with windows 10 computers.

I wouldn’t like chess as much online, I relish the looks on an opponent when you clearly have his back to the wall.
