Thanked: 0I can bring some.
I also have a co-worker who is not yet part of the gang, but wants to be. Anyone have some beginner stuff they might want to sell him? I've got a razor that I practiced honing on that I'd like to rescale. I'm happy to give it to him. He's interested in coming to talk to people and stuff.

try to get some local guest(s) of honor?
Folks,
I just called the Worcester Chamber of Commerce to see if they have any contact information for defunct razor companies (J.R. Torrey Razor Co, Worcester Razor Co.) and they said they do not... I know that J.R. Torrey was in existence up to 1973, but the chamber folks said their database doesn't go back that far.
I thought it would be wicked cool to have someone (maybe a retired exec or craftsman) who actually used to work in the Worcester straight razor industry come to our get togetha as a guest of honor... they might have some awesome stories to share, and perhaps some pearls of wisdom for us straight shaving swine!
I struck out, but would someone who is local to Worcester be willing to do a little legwork and see if we can find and contact someone who might fit this bill? I think it would be a great afternoon of fun for some octagenerian retiree, and someone from Worcester can give them a ride to and from their home. I think it would be awesome... but, nobody died and made me pope of the get togetha so I don't want to assume others would feel the same as me... but I have a hunch

I believe they went out of business in 1963, so finding
someone who retired from there would be nearly
impossible, unless we went to the cemetery. Maybe
we can find someone who worked there, but it would
probably only been for a short time. I'll see what
I can do.
I ordered a back issue of Knife World magazine which
had an article about the Torrey Razor Company in
July 1988. Maybe we'll get lucky and they interviewed
someone I can track down.
The building itself is located at the corner of Chandler
and Piedmont Streets, definitely not one of the nicest
areas of the city. The only businesses there now are
drug dealing and prostitution. It's a five story
brick with the windows boarded up. I've contacted
the owners in the past but never got a call back. I was
hoping to hit a NOS treasure of some kind.

I know Buck Bro.'s is still in the Millbury area. They also made razors back in the day (I believe they were one of the many companies that Case bought up, way back when). When I lived in Millbury I use to drive by them every morning. I think they make tools now, but they might still have some info from their razor makin' day's........
