Default Northern California SRP Meet I (With Pictures)

It was an excellent meet yesterday, at an excellent location (thank you SteveS). A great group of gentlemen all coming together to talk about their RAD, and look for support. As expected we're all just a bunch of enablers, so no one was cured.

    In attendance:

    Pavelaw
    SteveS
    Wopmanfixit
    DwarvenChef
    (and his bud Ken)
    Buddyjason
    30Cal
    Bpave777

    <I think that's everyone>

Of course there was tons of great razors to look at. Wopmanfixit brought some amazing Bokers. SteveS showed off a great looking Historical TI. DwarvenChef brought out a tiny DD Dwarf (Correct me if I'm wrong). Just to name a few.

There was lots of talk of honing, and some very cool stones. DwarvenChef even showed off the very beginnings of some Micarta (?) scales someone made for him by compressing some interesting materials.

Sorry I can't remember more clearly. That's the disadvantage I suppose of having this at a pub <g>

Here are some of the pictures. I hope everyone's with me when I say I'd really like to do this again. Maybe next time we'll all make it a point to bring stuff to trade/sell and do more of a swap.

    Thanks Gents!

I enjoyed myself and learned a lot. There were some beautiful razors being passed around for inspection and there's nothing like handling them (except maybe shaving) to get a sense of what you like or how the razor you've seen on the net is really like, up close and personal.

I think we need to do another one of these and next time, have everyone bring the razors they're willing to part with so we can do some trading or buying/selling. Nobody knew this first time whether offers should be made, or what we should do besides swap razor lore/knowledge and admire each others' prized razors, hones and paraphernalia. I would have probably bought one or two if I knew they were for sale.

The pub was cool, but several of us had a diffficult time finding the place (e.g., the more Polish ones, like me). Maybe we'll find a location a little more centralized... meaning a little farther north up the peninsula toward San Francisco? I know that some drove from Chico and Sacramento, which must have been quite a chore.

Everyone was laid back and we all got along very well, which I expected. I found long ago that people with common interests in an item also find common interests in other items. For those who attended: if you have a friend who's interested, bring him along to the next one... a good way to increase attendance.

I had a great time, too. It was fun to see everyone's gear and interesting to meet others with some of the same odd quirks and interests (beside shaving with straight razors) I have myself.

    Thanks, Bjorn, for organizing this!

I had a great time! Now I can put faces to the names. I like the idea of having another one of these a little farther north. Thanks Bjorn for putting this together.

I had a great time and being able to handle so many beautiful razors was a pleasure. I got a good idea of what sharp really means and how to get there, and I'm happy report that I was able to duplicate that result last night.

Mah shave went quite a bit better this morning!
