As a matter of fact, I'll be in Berlin from 17 till 20 September, drinking beer, honing Robin's razors, and drinking more beer.
I can't speak for Robin, but I don't mind extra company.

    Best regards,
    Bart.

Indeed. Bier as in German Bier, not Belgian Beer. We brought some extra from Upper Franconia, namely Gampertbräu Pils and Nothelfer Trunk. Be there or be square.

Well... If we must. In a pinch, it will do. I suppose.

You know, there's a really nice pub round the corner. They serve Belgian beer to English tourists. Serves them right. And there is a very nice hostel right next to it...

Well, life is hard, and then you die. But although there were only four of us, we had a massive amount of fun. Espresso provided by Andraschko Kaffeemanufaktur, additional Coticules and Eschers (there are about 10 more in a box under the table...) provided by The Different Scent. The coffins contain some NOS Dorkos, Dubl Ducks, and other stuff. The other box under the table had a few more razors, among them some funky W&Bs, Depews and Wackers. The usual stuff.

    Lessons learnt:

    1. You don't really need anything but a Coticule, even for difficult razors. Well, you will also need a bit of practice, but that comes over time, apparently.
    2. The great strop shoot out between The Different Scent: "Old Traditional natur", The JimboRoo, and the SRD Premium I had a clear winner.
    3. Coticules are great for sharpening kitchen knives, too.

All things considered, we had a lot of fun. Thanks to Bart, Chris, Nico, and The Different Scent.

Let's see if we can attract a slightly larger audience next year

    Robin

    I'll be back next year.

    Some things I learned:

    Berlin is charming.
    BeBerlin is more charming.
    BeBerlin's wife is most charming.

    Franconian Beer is Sterling Stuff.
It doesn't give you any headaches.
But you can get the flu from it.

Strops can be very nice indeed.
Till you use the Old Traditional.
That instantly kills all appreciation for other strops,
how well made they may be.

That notion comes with a price.

Berliners know how to make espresso.

Shaving creams are vast and unexplored territory for me.

Full hollow razors have a ridge that can be felt between thumb and index finger.

There are people on this planet, who can operate a GPS device, answer e-mails on a BlackBerry, make intelligent conversation about German history and steer a car through heavy inner city traffic, all in full simultaneity.

It is hard to cross a street when there are over 40 000 people running on it during the Berlin Marathon.

    Thank you once again, Robin.
    I had an amazing weekend.

    Bart.

Wow looks like it was a fun time...I wish I was closer.

There seems to be a large mass of water in between me and Europe!

Only just saw this post. In september I received my first razor so that was a bit early I guess.

What about a visit to Solingen next year ?? A bit opportunistic from my point of view because Solingen's not that far for me, but I would like to visit one of the factories (Dovo, Boker ?).

If I am in Norway at the time of the next meet, I hope to be there as well. Usually around september I am in Cambodia, but a lot could happen in 10 months soooo.. Just let us know a couple of months in advance so we can plan ahead
Looks like a great opportunity to learn and exchange experiences and also to meet other Straight Razor addicts.
