1st Portland meet
Met up with joshmpdx form B&B last night for the first Portland get together. Good times. We got to check out some razors and a couple hones. And then honed up a couple razors Brought in some basic tools, sanding jig, dremel w/polishing bits yada yada.... All in all I ended up with one of my razors honed up, a loaner to try out for a couple weeks. And the simple pleasure of actually having a conversation with someone who has similar interests. If you get a chance to meet up with some local folks, do it. It'll be a memorable experience

That sounds like a good experience, I'm glad to hear it.
I'll be in Portland for July (it's my hometown, actually) and was wondering if there are any recommendations for things straight-razor related to do in the area. I know that's a broad question, so answer however you'd like.

I'll let you know the next time we get together. Might be as soon as a couple weeks but I won't know more unitll I speak with josh again.
Considering the dominence of the "hippie" mentality in the area, I'm surprised to find anything hygene related. There's Winn Perry on 11th & Division that's a somewhat upscale mens clothing/etc store. He carries a few brands of soaps and creams (Inst karite, TOBS, D.R. Harris etc.)
Essential Lotions & oils on Hawthorne makes shave soap & cream. The cream is unscented but they will custom scent for you for a nominal charge. Both of those products are shea butter based. I've heard that some folks don't like them but I've got 'em both and thought they worked great so YMMV.
Other than that I don't know what to tell you. Nothing specifically "razor" oriented, just random bits scatterd here and there.

Thanked: 0Portland honing?
Hey guys. I've just started shaving with a SR and am looking for a local person/place to hone my Dovo. I tried using it years ago and at some point nicked up the edge a little. It still shaves pretty well, but I know it could be better.
Do you know anyone here in Portland that hones?
Thanks,
Joe

josh from B&B has a nice set of stones that I got to work with when me met. There are a few local members between SRP & B&B. The only difficult part is finding 'em. Josh and I are going to hook up again in the next couple weeks, I'll let you know when, where and you could bring it with you if you get a chance.
I'm probably going to start an individual thread just for the Portland meets as the idea is to get something regular happening.
