Central Iowa - Any interest?
I am just trying to find out how much interest there would be for a get together in central Iowa. When I first started shaving with a SR in Feb. 2011, I couldn't find anyone in the area. Since then I have met a couple of people that have taken up wet shaving, and a barber in town that actually has his own line of products. And while Minnesota and Missouri are close, I would still love to have a meet in central Iowa.
So the question is, would anyone be interested in a meet for Ames Iowa? I have access to a large shop on the weekends...

Thanked: 1371If it's a date that works for me, I'll see if I can catch a ride with one of the other MN guys.

I'm planning a trip out this summer, so maybe I can make the second or third one.

Personally this would be a first for me, both in terms of setting something like this up, and meeting more then 2 people that use a straight razor. But in browsing the threads the past year, I haven't found anyone that has gotten a meet started in central Iowa. Thus the poll.
There is no definite date in mind, other then if there is enough interest, I would like to have it before April 13th (my wedding), or sometime early in the summer. As to a 2 day meet, or just a Sat or Sun afternoon, I am not sure. I am fairly certain that the barber here in town would love to show off his entire line, and probably hand out some samples. He is a DE fanatic, but uses straights on occasion. He has been running a wet shaving clinic every couple of months, and some members on here have expressed some interest in video taping it. So that might be something that we can do during the meet.

Thanked: 2209Having the first Razor Meet in the Barbers shop would be a good idea. I don't know the size of his shop so maybe limiting the first one to 15 people and from 10 am til 4PM ? on a weekend would be a good idea. But maybe that is to much for him?

Depending on the response I am going to try to get my hands on a two way mirror. They seem to be pricing around $15/sq foot. So for $60+tax I can get a decent sized mirror, and I have the lumber to build a small dark room behind it. This would be a huge opportunity for anyone interested in shooting a great instructional video, or for any newbies that want a really great view of someone shaving.
If this does happen, I think we will get a lot of local interest in the art of straight razor shaving.
