A truly fine member. He will be missed.
Blessings to his family and friends.
SRP has lost a respected member & contributor to the community. Godspeed my brother, you will be missed, but not for gotten.
I bought my first razor from Neil four years ago and was the first of many from him, his skill was amazing and his posts and emails always amazed me with the knowledge and his sharp wit often had me in stitches. So very sad, I will miss him greatly. A true gentleman.
My thoughts go out to his family at this difficult time
I was very sorry to hear this, indeed! A massive source of knowledge has passed away and a very good friend at the same time! I hope Kim can cope and has close ones close, my deepest condolences go out to you Kim and Neils close ones!! He had a few stories to tell, sometimes we swapped stories about dads and his was a strong character too. Once he told me his dad (who rented out huts) had gone around with a chainsaw and knocked on the doors on those who hadn't paid rent and clearly declared: "hut or rent" and if they didn't pay he went to action. I guess Neil inherited his fathers sense of justice, but he had a large pathos too!
I learn with great sadness the disappearance of one of the greatest historians of SRP.
Its posts have been for me a continuous source of knowledge.
Condolences to his family also in the name of the all members of Italian forum Ilrasoio.com.
Fair winds and following seas Neil.
God Bless
Neil was such a wealth of information and truly will be missed. What a shock! Didn't expect to see this when I logged in this morning. Condolences to the family and RIP Neil - you will be missed.
I'm not sure exactly what Mr. Miller was dealing with, but I was not aware it had come to this point. His knowledge & presence will be missed here, and my deepest condolences go out to his family & friends.
Deepest sympathy to his family. Although I only knew him from his posts, I learned much from him.
R.I.P.
Condolences to Neil's family at this difficult time. He'll be greatly missed here too.
I read just now about this bad news, rest in peace my friend and condolence to the family.
I have received this from one of our members, Dave (Rolodave) and asked him if I may share it here.
Dave is a fine guy and his prayer list has helped me greatly in some recent hardships.
I thank him and especially for his permission to share it here. I felt it quite a fine tribute to Neil's memory.
(Dave's words;)
"After Neil and I started talking about things other than shaving and I became aware of his health issues I offered to place him on the prayer list at our church. Neil was most receptive and thanked me several times over the past year for putting his name on the list. Our pastor would occasionally ask how Neil was doing and sometimes I had good news but usually not.
This morning I put one of Neil's strops on the altar and took a pic. Pastor Patrick asked why knowing something was very wrong. When I told him my friend had passed he was very comforting and made several comments during the service that friends did not have to live next door or be on facebook. Sometimes just being there for someone to lean on was being the best kind of friend. I am so glad I reached out to Neil and in someway gave him some comfort during his terrible ordeal.
Neil touched so many people even ones at a small Methodist church in the very small town of Franksville, Wisconsin."

My condolences to Neil's wife and family. He was a very nice person and will be missed.
I've not been on the shaving forums for a while but I'm deeply saddened and, although I knew he'd been very ill, somewhat shocked to learn of his passing.
He was very generous with his advice to me sometimes by public reply other times privately and he was also sometimes quite scathing of people who purported to know a lot but in truth didn't. His candour was IMO very welcome, and he will be greatly missed.
Kim, my sincere condolences to you and your family he was one of the good guys.
Just seeing this now...
Shocked and saddened...
Condolences to the family.
Myron
Rest in Peace, Neil. One of a kind, and top shelf in every way.
I have been away so news has been slowly filtering in. I am very saddened to hear about this, we have lost a great member of the community. Condolences to the family.
My condolences to Neil's wife and family. May he rest in peace. I will miss his wisdom of everything related to straights. Fortunately we have archives that will preserve both knowledge and memories of a fine man.
Very sad news.
My condolences and prayers for his family and friends...
Sadness abounds these days and this news is no exception. He supplied me with some very nice equipment over the years. Salute.............
Things Neil sent to me as gift become a memory of himself... great guy... we will miss you mate...
Deeply sad and shocking news.
I purchased a couple of small items from him in the past, and indeed he honed my first ever straight razor. I subsequently learned to hone myself, and restored my own razors. A little less than two years ago I sold a James Tilford 5/8 square point that I got off ebay along with a couple of other razors - it had only really needed rescaling and honing. The address I was posting to looked familiar due to my purchases from Neil, and I messaged the buyer asking if I was indeed selling to Neil Miller - albeit Neil Miller using an eBay pseudonym!
His reply? "I am that soldier!" Subsequent conversation was mainly me worrying that my honing skills were certainly going to be well judged! He was kind enough to come back to me upon receipt of the razor, praising the job I had done honing it. Of course... he could have been humoring me!
Rest easy Neil. The immense knowledge of your craft, will live on in these pages.
Regards,
Alastair.
Some wonderful tributes in this thread to a wonderful man that was well liked and respected. Thx to all that have posted comments about their experiences with Neil.
Rest in Peace, Neil.
I had the pleasure of just getting to know him via messages we sent back and forth.
A great man and was straight forward in his information. I will truly miss him and so will others.
Breaks my heart knowing he is gone.....BUT he will never be forgotten!
I read this tonight.. My condolences to his family. Like many here he helped me out by doing hours of research on the provenance of a razor I purchased. It was very kind of him and I will all ways remember that- I stored his PM to my hard drive because it was so thoughtful of him, and important to me- I am saddened. "Well liked and respected" is a great tribute. Rest in peace Neil.
Sincere Condolences to the family, rest in peace Sir.
My condolences to his family, I never had much interaction with Him but always enjoyed his postings immensely seemed to be a great person. Rest easy .
Not a day has gone by when I haven't thought of Neil. Neil was smarter than me and I never cared.
I never got the chance to meet or even have a conversation with Neil. I have saw examples of his fine work and was very impressed. It seems that he had quite a following in our community, and it saddens us all that such a person is no longer with us. My thoughts and prayers are with Neils family through these tough times.
I didn't know him, but his work was wonderful and his comments were always very very informative and full with knowledge.
RIP Neil and my prayers are with Neils family.
Terrible news, rest in peace
I've been away from the forum(s) quite some time, heard earlier today about Neil's passing...
My sincere condolences to his wife, family, friends; may his soul rest in peace. I did have a number of dealings with Neil since 2010, and am fortunate enough to own a few of his top end strops (including a lovely magnetic). He was a very special person and I wish I had the chance to meet him in person.
Also away for a bit and just now saw news of Neil passing. Simply gutted. No words are adequate to express my empty sadness at the thought of SRP without Neil. The loss of his encyclopedic knowledge regarding our community, and certainly his incredible, wacky sense of humor make me think that SRP will be a bleaker place without Neil to school us, laugh with us, with a good heart make fun of us, guide and help us. Never met Neil in person, but consider him a dear friend. So many times belly laughing at Neil's prose...Sweet and nurturing thoughts to his loved ones. Your Neil (Our Neil) remains among us by virtue of his wonderful character.
Dave- next time you're in IC, the first one is hoisted to Neil's memory.
I only knew about him through references, his work and now here, from these heartfelt remembrances. Rest in Peace.
To Neils friends and family my deepest sympathy. The razor community has lost an exceptional man. A master craftsman, artisan, keeper of history, lore and knowledge. When we lose a man of his ilk too much is lost with them. Thankfully we has access to the wisdom he has left us.
RIP Neil
Today is Neil's funeral
Rest in peace, my friend.
Rest in piece Neil.
You were a leader, mentor, and online friend who will be missed.
