Head Shaving with a DE
What's your favourite razor & what's your favourite blade ?
I haven't tried a lot of variety but atm use a Merkur 1904 open comb &/or a cheap TTO Feather. Have tried Feather, Gillete & Astra blades, amongst others, with a preference for the Astra & Gillette 7 o'clocks. The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.

Thanked: 1587I've got one, but I don't know the brand sorry Oz. Bought it cheap from a Shaver Shop. I've used it a couple of times with the wilkinson sword blades it came with. My preference for head shaving is to use a straight of course, but I got the DE for a 3 night train trip to WA a few years ago.

Thanked: 375Merkur Slant with a Feather blade is the all time favorite of mine. I shave my head everyday, just never had an issue with this setup.

Been considering the Merkur slant. Does it work equally well on few days growth. Of the two I have, the open comb seems better to kickstart a heavier growth.

Thanked: 375I think it does, it's rare but sometimes I do skip a day or two.

Thanked: 67I've done this a few times. My hair grows quickly, and so if I skipped a day or so, I had to carefully choose which razor I used to shave my head.
The ones I really liked were my Muhle R41 (2013) and My Merkur Slant. These don't get clogged nearly as much as my other razors.

I love my Gillette NEW long open comb, but I wouldn't say that it clogs less for being open comb. The gap between the base and cap is not nearly as large as that on my Merkur slant bar, and I think that larger gap is why the slant seems to clog less and "swish clean" more easily.
Keep your pivot dry!

Thanked: 1185I myself only cut my hair on Sunday. Agreed the Merkur Slant will get the job done and well but I'm with Jimbo, I usually use a straight for my haircuts.
The older I get, the better I was

Thanked: 1936Gilette Fat Boy with Feather blades, setting three. First pass on one side, second pass on side two...toasted the blade. I don't head shave often, but worked fine. Most of the time I use a straight...

I've got to admit that my head is easier to shave quickly in the shower with a Mach3 cart but I will use the Merkur Slant or Muhle89 with a Gilette 7 O'Clock Black. The skin is so tight on my head that the cart is fast and somehow lasts a long time on my head. The straights are the only thing that touch my face.
