Thread: What's your routine?

Currently using a DE razor with the intent of picking up a straight later this year. I shave my head about every other day, or every third day max. First pass is always towards the crown of the head, so ATG. After that it runs XTG for the rear and top, followed by top down on the sides. I finish with the detail work around the ears and relather for touch-ups. Taking my time, I can use up 10-15 minutes. If I have to hurry, I can do it in five, but it won't be great.

Well I have been a every other day head shaver for the last 15 years. For a majority of that I have used products from the headblade company as I truly get fantastic shaves quickly with them. As of late the cost of their products an availability has led me back to using my DEs on my head most of the time. Straights are a rare thing for me to use on my head as it just takes to long. I am a 90% straight shaver on my face. The other 10% is DEs. So my basic routine is shower, straight shave face, DE shave head 3 passes each an aftershave done. Nothing like BBS to start the day.

Thanked: 375Just picked up some Mugso Glyce pre shave soap (?) . Tried it for the first time last night. Wet the puck then applied the bar/puck to my head like a shave stick. Not sure this is the "proper" way to apply it...
Any way the stubble scraped away the soap and then I applied my lather. Super slick. Not sure I'm using it right but hey I don't see much on here at all about Mugso Glyce. I may just try washing my head/face with it and rinse then apply lather and see what happens. I'm hoping this stuff helps me get comfortable using a straight on my nugget. My lather is slick enough, but if I can improve that slickness and cushion I'm sure it would make the learning curve that much more easier. OR was it just a good/bad excuse to purchase more shave supplies?CHRIS

Thanked: 4DITTO on the comments about HB. Even using "other" brand cartridges it gets spendy and I hate throwing them all away. I primarily substitute Sensor blades because I prefer only two blades. I don't normally order them online so it ads to the expense but I'm used to the Sport model and it gets the results I want, w/speed. Slowly converting over to DE head shaves. I've been having some skin issues so quit shaving for a couple of weeks. I think I'm going to go to a local who supposedly gives good BBS head shaves, (been a little female dog of a week so going for ME). He uses a DE.

For my routine: (Note, I shave 2-3 times weekly...)
1) Prep all gear as I soak Towel in hot water then wash face and head, re-soak and put towel on head while Bowl Lathering.
2) Lather Head and Face completely using this lathering on my face as a pre-shave routine.
3) Shave Head with DE of choice and I have 9 in rotation... 5 old and 4 modern. Merkur Progress currently my Top Dog in preference but I really like them all and enjoy both CC and OC.
4) Rnse all, re-lather face and use SR for Face Shaving. Two Passes suffices for me.
5) Rinse all and use leftover lather for Pre-Post Shave. ;-)
5) Clean all gear and put away.
6) Shower.
7) Post Shave AS/Balm.

I have always showered after shaving since I waa a kid and before I started shaving my heae. But, especially with goatee trimming, eye-brow trimming and using the DE/SR into the hair that grows on my chest, shoulders and back... I just don't feel "clean" unless I shower after nowadays.
Cool new Sub-Forum!! I have also tried SR for my head but, once I get around to the back, things just don't seem or feel right. I kinda feel lucky getting to use both SR and DE every Shave!!
