I've been head shaving in the shower, using prorasso. I use a small amount, and smear it on like shampoo. after a minute, I start shaving. In general it only takes me a couple minutes to get my head done, since rinsing is quick, and the razor doesn't clog. I do touchups after while my face lather is setting up.

Shave soap. Lather it up and go to work.

For myself, I generally find tallow based soaps to be less runny than veg based soaps. Unless you overload them with water. I would never use a gel to shave, for many good reasons. Make sure to use plenty of soap when loading your brush. I load over top of my shave scuttle so that the proto lather can drop into the bowl. That way you are assured of using enough soap and I find it easier to adjust the water ratio.

Some good advice already posted previously for you. Perhaps rinse more often, use a bit less water and try a good tallow based soap. Generally with straights though, you want the lather to be more slick and that does entail using a bit more water than you would with a DE generally.

One brand of soap that I have found gives me extremely consistent results is the Cold River Signature line of soaps. For me they are very slick, protective soaps that don't become runny too easily unless you REALLY overload with adding water. Not cheap, but I have not found a more consistent better performing soap.

I recently started substituting Neutrogena Shaving Cream in place of Noxzema Cleansing Cream in my pre-shave routine. I rub a small amount of Neutrogena into my wet whiskers. Brush lather my favorite soap or cream over the top, complete my first razor pass, rinse and repeat the process. My shaves are outstanding and my facial skin feel great.

Cremo-Cream, Noxzema, Musgo pre-shave soap are all good for additional lubrication. I have noticed the Musgo does not clog my Slant though FWIW and because of the added glycerine in the mix, my lather seems to benefit which in turn seems to make for a better shave.
