Thread: Spring/Summer nugget protection

Okay so every year I am reminded quickly that it is Spring/Summer by the flaking skin on my head from just a little to much sun.
I spent my 5 day weekend off, removing 5 ton of stone and replacing it with a different stone which of course meant shoveling 5 ton of stone back in it's place. I also mowed, and opened up the pool (an all day process). So you get the picture...I spent several days outside, all day in the sun. Now I did use sun block for once (usually I burn my bald head once a year, I just forget...to sunblock) but this year I remembered my sunblock in fact I used SPF 50. I still ended up with a very itchy scalp, and now flaking skin. Is it me or is the sun just freaking brutal anymore? I mean as a kid the highest rating on "sun tan lotion" (not sure sunblock even existed) was 4 or 8 and I never remember getting burned.

SO....What's your go to sunblock for your coconut?

it is worse than it used to be. I'm wondering though if you reacted to the sunblock?

I'm a hat guy, even if its just a buff, I've burned my scalp enough times from mis-applied sunblock.

I use to wear a Ball cap, until I started getting funny looking tan lines on my head. May have to look into a wide brimmed hat...

I keep my skull well moisturized and use Neutrogena dry sunblock, when I remember. I don't like "stuff" on my skin like lotions and what not. Just using all these shaving products has been a big change for me. The interesting thing is my head doesn't really burn. I've had plenty of missed days, forget to apply sunblock, and it doesn't seem to want to accept any sun. It doesn't get really tan and I'm out in the sun quite a bit. I'm more worried about skin cancers with the exposure than sunburn. It's weird! then there's my up bringing and hats...... can't bring myself to wearing hats all the time, having to take them off every time I go inside. Just a pia

Not a fan of lotions either...BUT was looking for something anyway even if it irritates me is better than nothing.
I ran across Baxter of Ca. Super shape online I believe its SPF15 but it seems to have been discontinued... I need something that when I sweat, it won't get in my eyes. Ran into that this last weekend with the SPF 50 stuff - it burns! I use to use HeadBlade sunblock but they seem to have discontinued their SPF 30?
Also I'm checking into hats with a wider brim - When I was a kid I remember my neighbor mowing his yard, I swear he wore a straw hat 3 ft. in diameter lol maybe something like that but I think my wife may object...

Well you could use an old bikers solution , do rag! Almost like wearing nothing and the old bean won't get burned, been wearing one so long , I guess I,m used to it. Tc

Never heard a cowboy with this complaint :<0) Seems to me the suns rays are more piercing these days. I have gone to wearing long sleeves in the sun. I limited out a long time ago on sunlight. If I don't protect I get something that has to be burned off :<0|

I wear a boonie hat, works great for me.
