I've been SR shaving my face for a while now, but always used electric clippers for my head hair. I like it short, so I never used a grader, just the clippers as short as they'd go. Always seem to get ingrowing hairs/spots on my head. Decided yesterday to shave my head. It felt a little awkward to begin with and I nicked both my ears and my head half a dozen times. Nothing a styptic match didn't fix. I've gone over my head again this morning and already it felt easier and only 1 nick. I am converted. I hope it cures the ingrowing hairs. I'm going to try my wife's DE next to see if it's any easier - then I'll decide if I get myself a DE for my head, or stick with the SRs.

Had a shaved head 2X in my life, discovered in winter my head was always cold. So I just keep it short now. Used a cartridge razor, back then but found it was easier than doing my face, no compound curves.
Dont think my wife was too keen on it either so I probably wont do it again.

Been shaving my head for about two weeks now. I still get more cuts on my chin. One razor seems to get dull before I am finished.

I shaved my head today (about 2 weeks growth since last cut) with my better half's DE. Now I love my SRs, but I have to admit that it was much easier with the DE and the result was excellent. Not a single nick. I haven't had any of the usual spots from ingrowing hairs either in the last 2 weeks. I am definitely converted to a DE for my head.

An update... After using my wife's closed comb DE a few times, decided I'd try an open comb. Bought an old vintage one off EBay which was very cheap. It cleaned up really well. I got a bargain. Bought some feather blades too. Great results, but nicked myself a few times. The open comb with feather blades was certainly more aggressive. I'll need to show the DE the same respect as my SRs.

I like the open comb / feather blade combo. I often use an old travel razor with an open comb. I bounce between that and a fat boy for my head, always a SR for my face.

There's nothing like a clean shaven head
I've been doing it for a couple decades now, the last five years with a straight mainly.
I too suffered from ingrowns and whatnot before I went with a straight.
Now I'm sporting the shiniest dome in the northern hemisphere

Keep at it, it will only get better over time!

Come to think of it, I've not shaved the spud with a straight for most of the summer. When I start to get the Homer Simpson hairdo, I just run the clippers. Perhaps the weekend should include a full on straight razor shave and haircut with iced water

I have shaved my head for about 15-20 years or so with different devices and when I got my first straight my head was the first to get shaved It was my practice area. Its much easier than the face imo. You just need to figure out how to stretch the skin appropriately with either head bending or by hand. I always go against the grain as a first pass. And going over the different locations in different directions until its smooth.

I really like that you can shave of quite long hair with a straight that a mach3 or similar can only dream of since it just loads up.

I think I had it down to a science at about 10 shaves, but then not long after that I gave up and went back to the mach3 since it was so much faster, and only used the straight when I knew the mach3 would choke.

My head would look like it was polished after the straight

I used gilette gel btw.

If I don't keep up with shaving my head, I'll get ingrown hairs regardless of what I do to prevent them—they are the antagonists in my head shaving narrative.
