I suppose that I'm just stubborn about the issue. I'm hell-bent on using my straight razor to shave my head with. I am positive that I will be able to with enough research and practice. After all, if I can get my face smooth without a nicks, why not my dome as well?

Thanked: 30I was hell bent on doing it too. Well I did it ...3 times and decided that as thick as my hair is it required having an ultra sharp blade that still required stropping for each section. I now use my de for head shaves after I proved i could do it with a straight. Good luck to you. The crown was the worst for me.

Thanked: 30I meant to post 2 complete head shaves. Shave my face then head, then next time shave head and change blade before face again.I can tolerate a duller blade on my scalp than my face.

I get between 3 and 5 head shaves per DE blade. 3 is a solid number since I switched to DE a few months ago. This is only for my head shaving, mind you. Still only use straights on my face.
After 3 shaves I can tell when it starts getting a little dull and just change the blade then. I got a sampler pack of blades online.

I have been looking into some of your threads about DE shaving your head. I am concerned that it will become just as an expensive matter as using a modern-day cartridge razor rather than using the infinite straight that I can hone up. This is what is preventing me from biting the bullet and purchasing a DE, especially since I have been shaving with a straight for so long now. I'd feel like I would be doing a dishonor to my Bismarck that I have shared so much joy with. Hence, I am determined to make it work out somehow. My straight is more than just a tool, it's an extension of an era and a character. If other, greater men before me could do it, then so can I. Don't get me wrong, though. I wish the best chrome-dome experience to any man who uses any method, but I want the straight to be mine....and so you all find me here, researching my next hurdle, from shaving my face to moving a bit more north.

Fascinating. I would not have assumed that a DULLER blade would feel better on your noggin. For my head, I always thought sharp, sharp, SHARP! Especially since everyone seems to be concerned about how quickly straights dull when shaving the head, it makes it sound like dull=bad...at least that's what all of my personal straight razor facial shaving experience leads me to believe.

Thanked: 30I was referring to using de blades and reusing them. If the straight is not at its top condition I have problems with closeness. It will not go against the grain and then I have problems with burns and nicks.Others may have a different experience but that was mine. I have a full head of hair thats probably a 7 on the coarseness scale. Thats why I went back to de for my head even though I shave my face with a straight.
