I've been shaving my head with a straight about once a week for a while now.
I was actually very surprised at how straightforward it is. I only do one pass WTG and that is without any discomfort at all.
I have two mirrors but I only use them to check for missing spots when I do the back, not while I actually shave.
I try to stretch well with the fingers and by bringing my chin towards the chest when I shave the back. No pressure and let the razor do the work.
The only tricky bit for me is just behind the ears where there is little room for manoeuvring the razor.

It sounds like a good oppurtunity to get more shaving supplies . Since I'll be going at it for a couple months I should be able to tryout the different systems.

I've been looking at the feather for awhile. Maybe... Trying out a DE would be fun also. Headblade is a good concept also. O the possibilities.

I use a str8 for my head, you can not get a closer shave than whit a str8.
Try and take your time, start whit the top of your head and if you can do that witout nicking your self than do the rest! its like combing your hair you get used by it.
    have fun and good luck
