Thread: Shaved head

Hi. I shave my head & I've found that, no matter what post shave product I use, or if i dont use one, I get a ridiculously oily scalp a few hours later. I haven't tried too many options but have tried perfumed & unperfumed aftershaves, balms, isocol, and proraso preshave cream. I've also tried showering with soaps, body washes & just water. Whatever I do or don't do, my head is slimy like old ham by lunchtime. Any advice to prevent further embarrassment would be greatly appreciated.

try to rub alum block on your head post shave instead of using any other creams or post shave products. rub with alum after final hot water rinse and then let it sit until the shower is done and then hit it cold for a good minute to rinse it off and cool the scalp. the heat of a shower causes skin to sweat profusely for up to an hour even after the shower ends. the alum is an antiperspirant and the cold water prevents the sweating to even try.

This is exactly what I do. I suffered from the same problem. I shave my head with Williams mug soap. Yes, Williams and my trusty straight. Williams seems to do teh trick too after experimenting with soaps. after shaving I first rinse with hot water then cold. Then run a Alum block along my head and allow it to dry not wiping it off by towel. Then I apply witch hazel afterwords. I do not use aftershave on my head. I do not suffer from a oily head anymore. Have been doing it for years. Hope it helps.

Thanks a lot. I will try this & see how I go. I've been just wiping with a hankie lately but both of your testimonials have convinced me to try.

About a month back or so I had a smooth head for around two weeks. I shaved it for my districts swim meet (along with the rest of me...) for a full on dolphin effect...

anyway, I found that midway through the day I was getting pretty oily myself, especially since my head skin had not adjusted to not having the chlorine drying it out it was just pumping out oil! I started doing some lunchtime baby powder apps to dry it out. not a lot, just a bit on my hands and rubbed it around. Cut the shine nicely!

Not sure if the matte really works, I just ordered it based on reviews on Headblades site, supposedly it'll give you a matte finish. As soon as I get it, I'll do a review here.

On another note, you should give a DE a try. I can shave my face and head in 10 minutes, and I'm pretty anal about stubble on my head I usually get a "so smooth it's sticky shave". Although the ease/convenience of using a modern razor is understandable.

No problem I hope you have lots of luck. Remember God only made few perfect heads the rest have hair. It is a pleasure to be a bald man!

This has been my issue... What brand Alum block do you use???

I just ordered some Headblade lotion matte, anyone ever use that? Also picked up one of their Headblade Sport razors (it was on sale for $6), used it this morning and cut myself (ouch!). You have to push the razor on this model. They have a newer model that you can pull instead, that makes more sense to me. I generally use a DE, but does anyone use the Headblade stuff? Or Dovo's Striglia? Or maybe the Rolling razor, I think it's called that....

I know this is a couple of months old, but I thought I'd throw my 2 cents in. I use RazoRock aftershave wax looks shiny but doesn't seem to get oily, another one I use is Portland General store aftershave "Whiskey"a little shine yes, oily no. Now that spring is here and I've all ready burnt my bald head (happens every year) you would think I would remember after 20 yrs., what about sun block....currently using HeadBlade 30 SPF, it seems okay to me. What might you guys be using to block the rays from your bald heads?
