Beautiful Uchigumori with Purple Sumanigashi and Pink Momiji, includes Tomo Nagura
Selling a few surplus stones to replenish the vacation fund! This offering:
A stunning Ohira Uchigumori, approx. 135mm x 88mm x 18mm, 384g. The included Tomo Nagura (also Uchigumori) is approx. 46mm x 36mm x 27mm, 107g.
This is a sword-grade softer stone, maybe LV3, that is a good sharpener and pre-finisher. I do not recommend that you use it with Asano Mikawa Shiro Nagura. I generally use it for light bevel setting and initial sharpening with Tomo slurry. It will give a nice shaving edge with pure water, if you work it carefully. This is a very comfortable stone for hand honing. The Toishi and Tomo have been sealed with several light coats of clear shellac. Both Toishi and Tomo were originally purchased from Garrett (JNATS on this forum) at Japanese-Whetstones.com. From his original description:
I have only lapped the Momiji side, because some of the chisel cuts on the Suminagashi are just deep enough to require removing more material than I would want to waste. It's quite beautiful just the way it is.This is simply astounding. A very special piece of Uchigumori from Ohira mine were it is harvested from the Tenjyou strata.
This will make the most amazing razor hone, and will need to be lapped. Should be lapped from both sides as one side has a very rare purple Suminagashi (marbled) coloration and the other has beautiful pink Momiji (maple leaf) pattern. Lap both sides and you don't have to choose which one you will see when you hone, rather you get to. each time. The most beautiful piece of Uchigumori. Haven't decided if I want to sell it.
DO NOT buy this to break up and make finger stones. Please. That would be a waste of a very special piece of sword grade Uchigumori. This is for razors
