Default Alfred Field & Co. two piece strop / refurbished

Leather and canvas Strop manufactured by ALFRED FIELD & CO. (1892-1919) in great condition. Overall length 25 inches with hardware and handles. Stropping length 16 x 2 ½ inches. At top of leather gold stamped “TANNED IN - SCOTLAND”, on top of handle “BROKE IN - SHELL - HORSE HIDE - NO. 1”, at bottom of handle in circle “ALFRED FIELD & CO. - PROGRESS” with wheel and wings in center. On top of canvas “SHARPEN”. Leather cleaned with saddle soap and treated with neetsfoot oil. Canvas cleaned. Handle on canvas was missing stitching, so I re-signed entire handle. Leather soft and pliable. No major cuts or cracks on leather. Two or three tiny cuts or nicks on edge.

It's a beautiful strop, and I've been looking for a nice vintage shell. Is this similar to an ultra-slick shell cordovan? And how wide is it? Your description says "16 x w ½ inches." Thanks-Aaron

I'll take it-As I said, I've been wanting to try a vintage shell (I sure can't afford the new ones!). PM me your PayPal, and I'll send you the funds.

SHD, I think this is a great strop. My Koken has "scotch shell" and is as slick as water on ice. I swear it leaves a sharper edge than my other strops although I have no proof except my opinion.

What a curse be a dull razor; what a prideful comfort a sharp one
