JNAT: Shinden Hon Suita,
This is a very nice Shinden Hon Suita that I purchased from Keith Johnson a number of years ago. It's a good sized stone (approx. 200mm x 75mm x 30mm and weighs 1203g, or 7.87" x 2.95" x 1.18" and 42.4 oz.) that I use as a bench stone atop a folded towel. It's a relatively hard and fast stone that I generally use as a pre-finisher, although it will give a very smooth Coticule-like edge that is a pleasure to shave with. I use this with a full Asano Mikawa Shiro Nagura progression (Botan, Tenjyou, Mejiro, Koma) directly off a King 1k bevel setter. Generally 2 or 3 Botan slurries will get all of the stria from the 1k out, then a quick progression through the remaining nagura then finishing on water. Being a suita, it is thirsty and it will need to be occasionally sprinkled with water as you hone. There is a line and a few inclusions on the surface - these are non-toxic and present no problems at all while honing. The bottom and sides have been sealed with cashew lacquer. Comes with a tomo nagura.
