Wakasa Asagi
Wakasa Asagi. Not a pure grey, mizu, but with a mixture of greenish. I don't go by numbers, for me there are hard stones, very hard stones and super hard stones. This one is on the border of hard and very hard. It's trying to get to the very hard territory but not there. The feeling while honing is super pleasant. Satin feel.
Speed, fast. If you place a 3k synthetic edge with slurry it will turn black fairly quickly.
Is this a stone where you can go 1k straight to finish? No. I tried 3k synthetic then slurry with Atoma 1200. Kasumi, haziness, on the edge develops quickly but this stone wont wipe all the synthetic scratches, which is ok. I don't expect a fine finisher to do that.
Nagura progression - yes. I did full nagura progression. Botan to koma. There is some base stone that kicks up but not too much.
Finish - very nice polish on the edge. True finisher.
Shave - honed an 8k diamond hayashi and it gave me a very nice and comfortable edge on the first try.
Stone is sealed with cashew. As you can see in the pics there is some skin, kawa, on the back. The back of the stone isn't perfectly flat, in one corner it's a bit shorter but overall the stone sits well on a table without moving.
Size 210x75x31mm. Weight, 1300gr
Price - $315 shipped CONUS. This includes PP fees.
