Thanked: 0The Japan Stone Pre WW1 Nakayama Kiita Koppa (80mm wide)
Nakayama kiita koppa #23
Pre WW1 (pre 1920s)
Bought for $425, selling for $260
80 x 135-160mm x 13-16mm
460g
Thinnish stone. During long storage and use, it seems I've cracked a corner, chipped an edge, and there are hairline surface cracks on the stone surface (around 1mm deep). Apparently, the chipped corner was there when I got it when I inspected Alex's pictures. Still there on the stone though.
Because of this, I'm going to discount the stone a bit further than the other ones.
The stone is faster than the other razor stones (the okudo and shobudani), and the second fastest of the 4 kiita I've gotten from him. It can give a mirror edge, but I have to be careful with the porosity of the stone -- it is easier to contaminate it with foreign grit because the surface is more 'porous' or accepting. The pores can be filled with its own grit to help achieve a mirror finish.
The stone can be mounted to a base, but I do like to use it in hand. There are kawa on all four sides.
