Default which naniwa ss 8k or 12k

I want to get a single hone for general blade maintenance, anything major will be dispatched to my trusty honeist oz.
after bashing the in boxes of a couple of members, I have settled on either a 12 k or 8k.
Please let me know which you think would be best and put your vote in the above poll.
Sorry sunbird and Frankenstein indecission strikes again, and thanks again for getting me this far.
And thanks hnsb for the offer of the Norton's.

I can only speak for myself, but if I could only have one it would be the 8k.

Why not split the difference....Naniwa 10k. It kind of gives you a little of both. Slightly more aggressive than the 12k and yet gives an excellent finished edge. Honing on it is as smooth as butter!!

Why don't you ask OZ? I'm sure my mate would be glad to offer you his counsel!

While I've never tasted one of his edges, they are legendary!

With that said, I use the Naniwa 12k, it's served me well!

This. 10k then polish on crox/balsa.
One time, in band camp, I shaved with a Gold Dollar razor.

I cant comment or vote for the 8k since i dont have one nor did i ever shaved of its edge. Nevertheless i do have the 12k and that my friend is a no nonsense finisher, no slurry, no soaking, fairly fast cutter, my vote is for the 12k.
