Default Should I try this unproven 1K hone?

I found this at a local department store and I am wondering if anybody could provide any information on the stone? Any idea if this would be good 1K hone?
I would like to start to hone I have not purchased any hones yet though. I know that there are many proven 1K hones used by members, but this one is available locally and priced well, $27.99.

    The package says,

I would be happy to get it and send it to one of the HoneMasters for evaluation.

I don't see why it should not work. The only thing you have to remember is that if you go with that stone the amount of help you will be able to get with it is limited as most if any guys on here will not have used that stone.

What that means is you will have to learn all the quirks of the stone on your own. Not a bad thing to have to do but could be frustrating if you are not up to the task.

From what i can find, it is a Japanese made hone, so could be worth a shot.

This was the first brand of hone I bought, although I got the 1/3K combination.
It is a quite acceptable hone for bevel setting IMHO and feels not unlike the Naniwas - quite 'velvety'
As a matter of fact I lent it to a fellow member yesterday for him to learn/practice honing on.
For the price, I'd get it.
