Thanked: 177Slurry stone use.
Hello! I have the chosera 1,3,10. Is there any advantage in using the slurry stones that come with them? I use them to clean the swarf off but then rinse the hone off afterwards. Ive dabbled with dmt slurry on my nortons but never felt i got much from it other than a couple strokes in speed. Am i missing something by not using them? Thanks.

Thanked: 13245I tried mine a couple of times but really didn't like the results, so they are someplace in the closet
I do however like the light slurry from a few figure 8's from a well worn DMT 325 to start each Chosera off with, it keeps them clean and level and to me anyway I feel I get a more even edge.. Try it both ways and see what you find you can do the figure 8's and then rinse if you like too..

I also have that set of Choseras and I haven't used it with the slurry stones included yet. Glen tells me that they really add cutting power if that is what you're looking for. If you experiment with them I would start light and check your edge frequently. I imagine they could be too much of a good thing if a person wasn't careful. At least until you figure out what is what with them.

Thanked: 177I was thinking not to use them because the stones are the same 600 grit for all three. Maybe it would be OK for the 1k but a 10 k with 600 slurry? I didn't think so. I saw the link from prior post and yes it answered my questions. The dmt sounds like a better idea as it is raising slurry with the same grit. My second question is does the 12 step program work for HAD? Lol. Thanks again gents!

If you're going to use a diamond plate to raise slurry I would recommend the 1200 grit Atoma credit card sized plate. I hear it is available at Chef's Knives to Go. I have the full size plate and it is the best plate for flatness and for efficiency that I have ever had.

Thanked: 177I have a 600/1200 dmt 6in x 2 inch that I can use. The credit card size sounds very handy.

Thanked: 13245Hint:
The Credit Card sizes are great for raising slurry's
However they do not work as well as the full size plates at keeping the hones Clean and Lapped Evenly
