    Default Trying

Hi, i've recently started to learn how to hone , with Shaptons 1k to 16k.
I cant seem to get that sticky edge finish or to get the razor to cut mid level arm hair.
I have a "Not a Replica" blade just back from being sharpened in the states and it is wickedly sharp.
I want to reach that kinda level with my blades.
I know there is no easy answer to my question but i must be missing some thing.
The best results im getting is using Lynnes 40 with pressure 40 without and so on.
Do i need to perfect the bevel part more or might it need more attention on the higher grits 8k/16k/Diamond 0.5?
Any advise would be helpful .. thanks

Does your razor smoothly dig in to your moistened thumb nail as described in the following link? If so, then the bevel is probably set, and you can move on to honing on the higher-grit stones.

Best of luck to you, sir!

the 40 with pressure is only on the 1k stone. pressure on the high grit stones will kill an edge. you only need to set the bevel once, not every time you hone the same razor, if it just needs refreshing you can stay on the higher grits.

if you can get some dirt cheap razors off ebay or wherever you can practise on them.

So after the 1k when I move into the 4k, should it be no pressure at all or just a bit and then less and less the higher grit I go? Your rite about buying second hand razors.I darn't mess with my expensive pride and joy blades.

yer the 4k as well sorry. do two circular laps with pressure on 4k, then zero pressure laps. after the 4k stone, dont use any pressure at all, just weight of the blade.
