Thanked: 522You either didn't have your bevel set correctly along the entire length of the blade OR you blew your perfect bevel with uneven pressure while honing up through to the 16k. JMO

That's my read as well.
Circles or no circles, if the heel _is_ sharp, and the toe _isn't_ sharp, then either:
a) your pressure is uneven, left-to-right;
b) your stone isn't flat;
c) your blade isn't flat -- either a warp, or a twist, can do weird things;
d) you have a smiling edge (or a smiling toe), and you need to use a "rolling stroke" to bring the smiling edge down onto the stone.
