Default Hone Score! Can you tell me what I scored?

Not sure on manufacture, my Dad In-law gave them to me with no box. Also not sure how to go about cleaning them as it looks like oil may have been used on them. From touching the stones it feels like the darkest is more course to the lightest being less course. Also need to lap them as they have curves in them but free is free

At first glance I would say: run-of-the-mill hardware store sharpening stones.

They are Carborundum/silicon carbide stones. They are made with a lubricant (oil, for lack of a better word,,4am it is) at the factory. You will not get it out totally, nor should you try. The two you have posted are not really for razors, but would make great stones for other edged tools. No reason to lap them, IMO,,,,I would not put a razor to them.

Here is a link in our Library to explain a little more about your stones.

A great gift from your father-in-law, thanks for sharing them.

I think SRP should institute a Knighthood and I nominate Hirlau for the first Knight of the SRP Realm. He is always encouraging and kind, and quick to share his knowledge....this part surprises me as he appears quite young to know so much. So Hirlau, I hope the Honemeister Supreme touches each of your shoulders with a razor and makes this official: Sir Hirlau

Thank you for the kind words. The only problem with that is; the guys here that taught me are already Knights of the Round Table, thus I would be Hirlau, Knight of the Mail Room.

I think he's older than his photo suggests but maybe I'm wrong.

    Hirula,

Thanks a bunch for helping pinpoint the type of stone it is! Do you by chance have info on the other stone I posted about? I have 112 views but no replies
