    Default Shapton advise

Hi, i need some advise please.
I have the shaptons 1k,4k,8k,16k. I've been honing for a few months getting great results, using my shaptons and then CroX or Diamond on a felt paddle.
Today i ordered the Shapton 30k from Japan. I cant wait to receive it
First off, how many laps should i do on the 30k? I only do about 15 laps on the 16k but ive read about people doing untold laps on the 30k..
Also does the 30k mean i should stop using the Crox and Diamond .05?
    Many thanks..

This has been recently discussed in another thread, over here: http://straightrazorpalace.com/honin...-shaptons.html. Good luck!

There is only one person out there in Razorland that I have ever read about doing "Many" laps on the 30k, ever other person I have seen including myself uses very few, (less then 10) and many of us are pretty picky about what razor we even use the 30k on.. You are going to have to try a few approaches and figure out what works best for you and your face.. All this is also subjective to where the edge "is" after coming off the 16k and the previous progression .. I base everything on my systems being absolutely positive that I don't "NEED" anything past the 8k level to get a great shave...

Paste is always a YMMV situation, I don't use CrOx after the 30k or anything else that adds sharpness. I have found that after really high grit hones I like the CeOx better as it really has very little cutting power and functions mainly as a smoothing agent... Again try it out and see what works for you.

I would imagine that a 30k would almost be a necessity for kamisori's. Giving how they require a higher level of sharpness? Don't really know too much about shaptons or kamisoris. But both spark my interest and I hope to upgrade to shaptons
    Thank you,

I have always had better results using Naturals on Kamisori but that is just what I have found, try it and see what you get... I like the more gentle cutting action from the naturals for Kamisori

I don't have a clue about the shaps or kamis I was just interested in the answer. I plan to break into both sooner or later n I was just wondering

    Cerium Oxide

You have to find the 99% pure or better the "Gold Bars" out there are not even close, often the really good stuff is called "Super Cerium"

It is often used in Glass polishing ie: optics supply

It is much like CrOx only much less abrasive, softer more polishing, less cutting

It will NOT help to sharpen the edge, unless the edge is all there. it does little to help it get there, it only helps with the felt smoothness
