Hone Continuity
So I picked up a Shapton 1000 glass stone and like it so far. However, I jump up to a Norton 4000. In a way they are really different stones. I know in some ways it does not matter but with the glass stones should you stick to glass? Meaning, stay with a Shapton all the way to your finisher.

I go from a Chosera 1k to norton 4/8 to Escher with pleasing results. I'd say give it a try and see if you're happy with the end result on a few razors. I'm assuming you don't have the other glass stones ? OTOH, if your HAD is kicking in .......

I think it might be a case of HAD kicking in.

I go, sometimes from 800 Chosera to 2K Glass, to 6K King, to Coticule, to Barber, to Thuringer, to strop, on some razors that like that.
Every razor is different and that is a nice set to take a "THIN" double hollow grind from flea bay to shave ready.
Hones and steel and technique.. are so individual that having fun is the only way to fly.

Thanked: 13245Well I will be the different one in this thread..
Shaptons don't always play well with others I have said this for quite some time, but that could just be my OCD, I like order, I also like the feel being all the same
Try it and see what works for you but myself I will take the whole set of Shaptons in order any day

Good point!
Very true Glen. So would I if i had the money and was doing a lot of refining of razors. I got the Shapton in a trade. It fills a knitch that I didn't have a stone for.
All that said, The polishing action of the Shapton slurry at each stage will give a very nice finish at the end and a true sharp edge to shave with.
The advantage of your system is that, with the Shaptons, there is better chance of getting all the scratches out and leaving no deep scratches to destroy the edge over time.

OF course, this is only my opinion, perhaps, not fact.Be yourself; everyone else is already taken.

I noticed the 1k shapton looked more polished than the norton 4k. I guess that is the nature of the norton.
