Lapping a barber's hone??
I have recently acquired a couple of old (vintage) barbers' hones. Can I lap these with my DMT 325? If not, what is the correct way to lap them. Thank you.

Barber hones are very hard. I use sandpaper on a kitchen worktop.

Thanked: 13245DMT followed by a Arkansas stone to smooth it back up is my routine BUT I'll warn you against it unless it really needs it, the finish from the Factories on these is hard to replicate, so don't mess it up unless you really have to...

Out of the three ive lapped, one came up really good! Like new!
The seccond was nice but still not as smooth as how it origonally was.
The Third, "The American Hone" turned from glass smooth to 400 grit and i cant get this thing back to its origonal state.
So, be carefull lapping these things! As gssixgun said, its hard to get the factory finish back on these things!
