Thanked: 13247I did quite a few of my Honing Vids using the King 1k just to show that it works fine, especially for the price you can find them at...
But everyday, honing about 8 razors each day with at least half being restores, I would fight you pretty hard if you tried to take my Chosera away

Hey Glen, where's that chart of yours with all the different bevel setters and their comparative smoothness, cutting speed, etc? That was gold...don't remember what thread it's from though!

I don't have any 1k stones,

The "king" was my first 1k and it was really cheap I got it off of Ebay brand new but it's a 1.5"x8" it's also a 220 grit on the back
Thank you,

The naniwa's pretty much splash n go. And pretty cheap for a good 1k. It also helps that it's 2.75" wide so very little x in the rolling x pattern (that is as far as working from heel to toe as you cross the hone). But yeah if punch some mouth if they tried taking mine (making me go back to my king). Just kidding but really I love the naniwa hone I just wish it was a full 3" wide and I don't like the plastic base on mine. But I hear they aren't like that anymore (with the plastic base).
I couldn't tell u about the shapton or the other naniwa's because all I've ever used is the king and naniwa super stone. Either way it's your money and your choice so choose wisely. But I cannot say that I've ever herd anything bad about the shaptons or other hones previously mentionedThank you,
Swerve

The 1/6 King Icebear is a great stone. It will dish fast and require lapping to keep it flat. Works best with slurry which can be generated with a depleted DMT plate (which also helps keep it flat).
The Chosera 1K is a better stone for bevel setting razors IMO. It's a bigger stone. It does not dish as fast or require slurry. If slurry is used, it can stain ivory or bone.
Both are more like 2K. The Chosera 800 is closer to 1K level in U.S. terms.

Thanked: 1936I have used King, Norton, Naniwa SS, Shapton GS, Shapton Pro, and the big green brick known as Chosera on razors. They all "work", some better than others. I use the King & Pro on knives, sold the SS & Norton, and only use the GS & CHosera on razors.
I STRONGLY agree that folks would be $ ahead if they would go ahead and get the Chosera 1K in the beginning. Modine is right on, I have some green hue's on on a set of scales near the pivot point on one razor...lesson learned.Southeastern Oklahoma/Northeastern Texas helper.
