J Nat experts needed
Hi guys just got this J nat and was wondering if anyone could tell me what type it is and what the writing on it means .Ihavent used it yet because i wanted to get some pics up befor i lap it so i dont know how hard it is its a little greener than in the pics and feels very fine to touch.The guy i got it off didnt seem to know much about it said something about using powder on it to make it cut faster ,so im guessing its a hard stone ,dosent look to have caused any dammage .I will take some pics when its lapped and with slurry later cheers .

I'm no "expert" but the two biggest kanji looks like; 大平, Ohira .

It seems like there has been 別上 in top right corner
( 別上 = "Superior selected grade" )

thebigG, could you make a photo of the reverse side of this stone?

No worries mate here are two wet and one dry there is not any lacquer on this stone yet and I'm not sure if I need to or just should lacquer the stone any advice would be appreciated thanks.http://s1226.photobucket.com/user/th...77e8.jpg.html]

Lacquering jnats these days is more of a choice then a necessity in most cases providing there are no lines and its a fairly dense stone. I do lacquer most of my stones whether they need it or not as it can bring out the colours and makes the skin look awesome :P
The stone you have looks like it has no line so there is not a huge chance of it cracking, but that doesn’t mean you shouldnt.

It is much better to lacquer the lateral faces of the stone even when it is not actually needed than to loose the stone because of delaminating or cracking.
