Shapton Glass 16k

So i was watching some video's today on honing and came across one with the Shapton Glass and lapping.
To my utter shock they began lapping the white section.... the penny dropped, i've been honing on the wrong side.
Now I've only had the 16k for a couple of weeks and used it twice, interestingly the glass bit did actually help polish the edge( or didn't do any damage as sharpness testing seemed the same maybe ever so slightly better)
I've not had such an obvious face palm moment in quite some time, needless to say i'm itching to get the blades on the right side as they are sharp, but come off a 6k( have an 8k, but poor quality so have been skipping this).
