    Default Franz Swaty Hone

I bought a small Franz Swaty Hone to maintain my Straight Razors. Do I push the blade on this or pull like a strop ?

Hone with the edge leading. The opposite of stropping strokes.

Some more knowledgable people may hop in soon. Usually recommended to use 6 - 8 laps using lather as a lube. The 3 line Swaty is usually considered finer than a 2 line.

As others mentioned lather works well. Glen(Gssixgun) did a good video on how to touch up on a barbers hone.

Hey Dave, Certainly the norm is the edge-leading stroke, though I'd suggest experimenting w/ some stropping strokes before a very light last edge-leading stroke. My experience (quite limited) w/ a 3L Swaty is that its no more sharp than a norton 8k, but a bit more smooth. Probably due to my experience being mainly on the Nani 8k - I get more sharpness from it than either of the other two methods.

Six strokes is fine for a touch up. Anymore than that and micro chipping can occur. I keep my three line in the bathroom. If a razor needs a touch up, I slap some lather on it and make three to six strokes and continue the shave.

You should use edge leading strokes.
