Thanked: 0Questions about honing
Hey everyone,
I've recently purchased an Artamis straight razor and my fiancée got me a 3000/8000 Grunwerg stone. Now I've been having problems with honing - the razor itself is rather blunt and even after about 60-80 strokes on the stone -weighted, unweighted, one hand, two handed, flat, 30 degrees- I still couldn't even cut a hair off of my arm. Another thing I noticed was that I was sharpening the spine and even part of the face rather than just the edge by putting it flat on the stone.
Now I've seen some people complaining about the 3000 side of that stone, saying that the stone isn't flat and needs to be lapped, but I'm also wondering whether part of it is due to my razor just being incredibly blunt. I've gone to local shops but no one seems to know how to sharpen a straight razor. I'm really at a loss here. Does anyone have some advice?
Regards.

Paint the edge with magic marker so you can see where you're at with the honing.
You might want to tape the spine to avoid grinding it down to much.
Put your hone on something true flat like a piece of glass to check it.
If you do need to flatten it, check the wiki.Hur Svenska stålet biter kom låt oss pröfva på.

Thanked: 3228Welcome to the forum. If you use the search function for the forum and input Artamis straight razor you will find lots of info on the razor. The major problem may be the razor itself judging by a brief look at those posts.
