Default Hairline cracks in my Norton

Will these cracks affect anything? They've been there since I got the stone. Is this normal?

I would just watch them carefully for now.
If you cannot feel them while honing, I would say that you are fine for now.
I've had cracks like that in other makers hones, but never on my Norton combo stone, so take it for what it is worth

Thanks. I can't feel them while honing. Just new at honing and didn't want to do any real damage.

My chosera 10 gets slight cracks on top in the winter. Only the 10. The heat dries the air I think and they dry out faster than they should. I may be wrong.

You need to lap the 4k more.
It shouldn't have that rough texture.

If it's been there since new, that's a defect and I would have sent it back. I've seen cracks appear in older ones but they can't be felt so it's not a problem. As soon as you can feel it it's toast.

I notice on your picture something towards the bottom that looks like a dished out area. That doesn't look good.

It does have a little pit in the surface. I've lapped it with a DMT and the pit remains. Maybe I'll call the manufacture and see if they will take it back.

Yep contact Norton. The surface of that looks more like stucco than my 4k :<0|
Living in Ca. I don't have much worry but I often wonder about temperature drops and wet stones.

Lap it more. These stones get better to a point the more you lap them. My 4 side got better and smoother. Unless it is very deep then send it back.
