I bought a DMT Lapping plate and really like the larger surface area. Couple dollars more up front, but worth it in the long term IMO.
The older I get the more I realize how little I actually know.

A DMT 325 for anything under 4k grit & a DMT 1200 for my 4k & above finishers.

Thanked: 177I have dmts and atomas. Do yourself a favor, use wet/dry for the heavy lapping. And save the plates for the touching up. A 325 is great for this purpose. Even though they are made of diamonds, the diamonds do last forever, but a lot of them just end up down the drain while you are lapping. But for maintenance lapping, they are terrific. If you get any Jnats or a phig, DONT use the atoma or dmt first. Use wet/dry then finish them up. Im just trying to save you some money.
