Thanked: 3Rough texture on Shapton 16k
Just recieve a Shapton 16k and out of the box, the texture is not as smooth as I'd expect a 16k stone to be. Not even close. Will it smooth up after lapping?

Thanked: 1195I don't have a Shapton but it will require lapping and yes I assume it will be smooth afterwards. At least that's my experience with other hones.

+1 on what Martin said. Mine had a sort of "grainy" feel to it when new.. something like a pebble finish but it smoothed right out when lapped.

Thanked: 522I lap my Shapton 16k with an Atoma 1200 and polish it with a worn DMT 325. Turns out fine everytime.
