Browse Amazon as a best bet, a few chain stores have them as well.
As a few pointed out there are pluses and minuses to pretty much all of the bevel setters.
Here is a link to a thread gssixgun wrote that I think breaks it down extremely well.

As you’ve found/ most everything about buying, using and maintaining a straight razor is ‘Personal Preference’!!
While my King isn’t a 1k/it’s a 1200, I’ve had great success with it! It is affordable and it works well!
As far as storage for years (I started using it for knives) I’d let it dry out. However after receiving some great counsel from GSSIXGUN that was based on his own experience, I now keep it in water with a small amount of chlorine bleach and it works great!!
When I used to wait for it to dry I thought that I’d die from old age before I could put it away! No longer!!
Yes there are better but much more expensive 1K bevel setters out there, but for getting started out I don’t see why the King 1K wouldn’t be a great way to get you going!!
You can always upgrade!!Our house is as Neil left it- an Aladdin’s cave of 'stuff'.

Thanked: 1936Ok, will say this & quit this thread. Ask yourself this: Does ANY veteran honer use a King for honing their straight razors? The answer will be a VERY small number if any at all. Come at any of my razors with a King...we will no longer be friends...over & out.

Thank you and God Bless, Scott

Thanked: 1184I use a king 1k. If I had it to do all over I would steal Shooters 1k :<0) Seriously, knowing what I know now I would probably do everything different. Money is always a concern and in the long run Shooters advice would have been better for me. Now I have the king and looking to get a better stone at that grit now. Something wider at least. The King has served me well and still does but with experience comes wisdom.
Oh and I think I just walked into a wood working store and bought mine.Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

Thanked: 202Who buys Ferrari as their first car ever? Most of us learned how to drive on something less fiddly and less expensive. In short it was solid car which did the job good enough. Then we bought something also to please our heart as well as to develop our skills further.
Yes sometimes one has to thing if it is worth to go for cheap first and then splash more cash when you know what you want and how it needs to feel. That is personalisation and each of us is different.
Normally i would say if you do not sharpen / hone any other tools then go and splash the cash. If you do then firs buy cheaper, learn the skill and pass it over to those course tools duty. Then go and buy something better.
However King is different. It is decent hone but is cheap. Like family sports car. You can have fun ans still get four people in for long trips with decent comfort.

Thanked: 3215I have a King, a Norton, Super Stone and the Chosera all are nice stones and can be used for razors. Mostly I use the Chosera for razors, the King and Norton I prefer for knives, the Super Stone I find a bit muddy. The Chosera is my go to 1K stone.
Any are a good choice and will serve you well, but as said if you hone for any length of time you will eventually buy a Chosera.
And yes, wider is better especially when you are learning.Last edited by Euclid440; 12-27-2013 at 04:45 PM.

Thanked: 13245Never met a 1k that doesn't work --- YET
Some work better, some work differently, but they all have set the bevel..
In many of my vids I did a few years back I specifically used the King 1k for a few reasons .
1. Cheap
2. Locally Available at many different places
3. It is a gentle smooth cutter
That thread that was linked above, gives a ton of opinions on the ones I have used,, I tend to collect 1k's like others collect Finishers, I have always felt the edge starts at the bevel so I am always on the search for a better one.. So far the Chosera 1k is the best I have found.. Mine is below 1/2 thickness now been using it on most every razor I hone..
If you hone for money or hone many razors buy the Chosera... But I would not feel handicapped in the least with a King 1k for honing my own razors...
