    Default Naniwa lapping stone cleaning?

Did something kind of dumb. Bought a Naniwa 12000 Super stone and the same make lapping stone. The 12000 had a sticker on its surface that I removed. I thought there wasn't any adhesive residue left on the stone but I must have been wrong. After lapping the stone I noticed what appears to be adhesive residue in the lapping stones grit. I thought about a kettle of boiling water and a brush to scour it but don't know if that will damage the stone. Also have some Goop Off solvent but same question. Also want to know if I can Use my Norton lapping stone on the Naniwa?

Tiepid water, dish soap and brush. That's what I use for tape residues removing and should work in your case too.

WD40 or Goof Off to remove the tape residue, then dish soap to remove the solvent, then lap.

A scotchbrite pad and some water should do it.

I think you can use any lapping stone on it. I use a DMT on mine works great.

Have you lapped the lapping stone. If not lap it and you will remove the adhesive at the same time. Good luck. Ed

Mine came off with water and 600 grit paper while lapping on glass. Don't forget to knock some off the corners. Euclid may know for sure but I wouldn't use any oils on it myself.

I recently did this to a set of Super Stones that had the same problem with tape residue.

Sprayed WD40 on a paper towel and removed the glue, then washed the stones in soapy water (liquid dish soap) and a scotch bright pad. I soaked in warm water for 15 mins to remove all the soap then lapped with a DMT.

No problem with the stones, all oil was removed by the soap.

Yes, do not forget to bevel or round the edges of the stone. I prefer to round the edge, round or bevel whenever you refresh or re-lap with the diamond plate, just a couple of swipes. Run your thumb fingernail on the edge feeling for rough spots.

A sharp corner can ruin an edge especially on your finisher.

Sorry folks, I think there was a miscommunication somewhere. The adhesive was gummed up on the cheap Naniwa lapping stone. used stainless wire brush and goop off. The 12k finisher was fine to begin with, being that all the adhesive junk got stuck in the lapping stone. Gonna buy a DMT 325 as soon as the eagle s..ts again anyway. The Norton lapping stone and the naniwa I have just don't do what a DMT will anyhow. Thanks for all the help though. That's what makes this site what it is.
