Advice on this stone please and first stone holder box attempt
Hi Guys,
I purchased this massive chunk of rock a month or so ago and it was sold as a CF, i purchsed it expecting it not to be although i was hoping it was. I know there are a few varieties of the CF and not all have the famous red color.
Is this a CF or something else.
The original box smashed in the post, this was my first attempt at making a stone box.
FYI: If your making a box for the first time with limited wood working skills, a coffin shaped box is probably not the smartest first attempt hehe although i think it turned out okLast edited by Brighty83; 12-29-2013 at 11:38 AM.

Thanked: 4249Well you did a fine job on the coffin style box for this stone, im sure it took you a while given the unusual shape of the stone. On the first picture of it i was thinking the box was vintage as well.
Anyway the stone to me looks to be some kind of Llynn Idwall perhaps the Grecian type. The flaking we see is very typical of LI. Furthermore i did see some CF without the red streaks, but im not really familiar with them. Either way both good naturals finisher.

Thanks, I was trying to keep the rustic look with the box
I too am leaning towards an LI. Whatever it is, it's a nice stone. Shame about the imperfection on the left half though, luckily the stone is large enough for it not to matter though.
In the picture when purchasing it was hard to tell as it was dirty.. The imperfection was full of oil, I was hoping with a clean I would see some read lines.. And the odd shape had me hoping CF at the time though.Last edited by Brighty83; 12-29-2013 at 03:05 PM.

Thanked: 202I don't think is Cf and even about LI I am not 100%. Also I have seen this hone somewhere before. Are the colours same as in pictures? Can you show close ups? Where did you get it from?

Here are some more pics.
The colour is a dark grey with a green tinge. I added a welsh slate for a comparison in colour\reference.

Thanked: 247Another compliment on the box from me. Great looking box!
As for the stone, I sure don't know either. Sorry!
I'd be comfortable thinking CF. But who knows? Better make your way to a razor meet up, and take the stone with ya! Somebody there will know for sure.
