Yeah I had to keep saving and then splurge over and over to get what I got. But I figured if I got a 10k I would wonder about the 12 so I just went ahead and got it instead of the 10. in the words of Johnny Cash I got it one piece at a time
Thank you,
Swerve

Thanked: 20So, for the guys who have used both the 10k and the 12k, is the 12k better enough to justify spending more than twice the price? If its hands down more than twice as good, and will fit within my current system (not too far away from my goofy 8k) then I guess it will go on the list.
I appreciate what you guys are saying. obviously the edge off the 12k is going to be a bit better. But what I'm saying is that right now I'm planning on buying one stone, and the SS10k seems to be the best value of everything I've looked at. Its relatively cheap, well regarded, and its available from several vendors. I'm not interested in gambling on a natural that may or may not be good. In a few years I may add to the collection, but for now I'm looking for something that will get my razors back into gear, and the 10k seems to be the best option to do that sooner.

Thanked: 1184Okay the plot thickens..... You are using these same stones on knives ? Do you lap them before putting a razor on them ?
Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

Thanked: 20the ceramics I have are very, very hard. so I lap them only when I've really worn them smooth. The king 4k only gets used on scandi ground knives, and gets lapped pretty often. I'm getting a good clean bevel. That's not the problem. And a few hours of scrap scrounging I could work up enough pasted stops to get things going. However, I'm looking to add some consistency to the system, add some longevity to the sharpness (starting out by convexing the ever living crap out of my bevel seems to be counter productive long term) and the simplest method seemed to be to add a high grit stone I can polish with or run some pyramids off of.
