Well Worn DMT 325 Become finer?
Not sure if this has been posted before or not, but thought I'd ask since I can't find anything. My DMT 325 is well worn and it seems to put finer polish on my stones. For example my natural stones reflect alot more now at more acute angles and the more its used the more they reflect. I can't see myself when looking at them straight on. Have noticed this for awhile now, but it seems to be getting finer if that makes sense. Still works, its just not as aggressive as it was. I was just wondering if it gets finer or are the diamonds just worn down so much that they are alot more uniform in size making it seem finer.

Thanked: 13249Mine is pretty well worn...
I can tell you this, DMT makes a Cleaning kit for them with a soft Brass Brush some OXY style cleanser and what looks like a old school rubber pencil eraser..
Using the Brass Brush and the Cleanser makes a difference..
I would think a $2 Brass Brush and some Barkeepers friend would probably do the same but I haven't run out of the Oxy cleaner yetso I can't say for sure
I am in no rush to replace mine, I like it just the way it is, I bought a D8XXC 120 grit to actually "Lap" stones and hones to flat, that is a rock slaying monster... Get them flat on the 120 and smooth them up on the 455Last edited by gssixgun; 01-18-2014 at 11:03 PM.

I use a well worn one on my hones to maintain them. I like the smoother finish. I have a newer one for other chores.

Its just normal wear. It has seen alot of use. I think it just worn down the diamonds to a more uniform size.

Thanked: 177My take on the dmts is they loose diamonds. BUT the diamond particles that are left are 45 microns, a 4k is rated around 6 microns(different rating systems another thread LOL). So whatever diamonds are left are still 45 microns. So its a slippery slope.
