It FEELS grittier but that's not to say that it cuts the same way as a 1k. In spite of how it feels, look at the scratch patterns. Its refining your edge from the 1k. I think you'll find that you are better off hanging with the gritty feeling 4k a little longer before going to 8k in spite of how it feels. I used to make that mistake and found that the 8k struggling like hell to eliminate the deep scratches from the 1k. I'm sure your 1k feels smoother but I think you'll find that its really cutting more aggressively than the 4k. There's nothing wrong with my Norton 4k side. Its simply how it feels to me and how it throws slurry quickly. The performance is there though.
