The weeping Hone Contest!
The holidays are over and everyone is broke and tax time is coming and if that won't make you weep nothing will so I thought this is a great time for a contest.
You know that sometimes when you hone a razor things don't go as planned. Maybe the hone ate your razor or the lapping plate ate your hone or maybe your dog pinched your hone and it's buried somewhere in the back yard or your hone fell on the floor and it broke into a zillion pieces or you started to hone and instead of the razor getting sharper it got duller or maybe your hone doesn't like you or maybe it was mined from a quarry next to where some vampire slept and now the hone is haunted or maybe even the hone was contaminated with radiation and now you and your razors are radioactive and you are slowly turning into "The Hideous Sun Demon". Maybe you sent your Eboy special to Lynn or Glen for sharpening and they sent it back saying it destroyed their prize hone and now they've blacklisted you. Maybe as you lapped your hone you discovered a giant purple diamond in it and now you're the richest guy in the world. Maybe you went through months of negotiations to get that special hone or you traveled to the quarry and were buried in a mine accident. maybe....
You get the idea. We want to know how your hone made you weep and what are you doing about it. Remember you can also weep for joy.
You can place your entries in this thread.
All entries will be judged for originality and don't fear humiliating yourself cause we like that.
So, is there a prize?...Does a bear poop in the woods? You're darn tootin there's a prize. The winner will receive a hone that will never make you weep.
This is an 8x3 Kitayama Japanese Synthetic Stone. It's basically an 8K hone but because of it's unusual characteristics it behaves more like a 10K or 12K stone and leaves a great finish on your razor. It's mounted on a wood base and there is no extra charge for that-har har.
We'll let this run for about a month to February 28th and all members are eligible except that is for staff. No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

I dug a few areas into my hone today trying to do strafe the flight deck(honing gymnatics) with the point of my Globusmen. It still hones fine, but I'm a little miffed, but now I need to figure out how to get that marker off it!!

My Naniwas made me weep by being so expensive.
And the Shaptons make me weep because I don't own any Shaptons.Last edited by Baxxer; 01-27-2014 at 12:41 AM.

The weeping Hone Contest!
Well, I just got my coticule and slurry stone about 5 days ago. My first hone, so I got pretty attached pretty quick. Tonight while messing with one of my razors, I asked a family member if they could wash off the slurry. The slurry stone was dropped on the way to the sink and the whole top popped off about 1/3 way through the cot layer on one side, and about 2-3mm in on the other side...so it wasn't an even split. I read on coticule.be that it could be superglued back on, so that's what I did. What I wonder about is if some of the superglue will end up in the slurry in the future.
Here's a pic of the two when the slurry stone was still whole.Classic, traditional Barber and owner at Barber's Notch in Brigham City, Utah.

I looked over the honing section for a week or two and decided on a Naniwa 3/8k. Got it in mail and lapped it with wetdry sandpaper. After reviewing a couple of vids by Lynn and one by Glen I went to town on it using the circle method. Never did get it arm hair cutting sharp but shaved with it anyways and was pleased with my results. Maybe Id been shaving with a dull razor and even minimal sharpness was welcomed. Maybe its just hard to give myself credit. Im gonna go with B the circle method works great. This was my first time honing and Id like to thank you all for the info on this website.

I ordered a Norton 4/8 from the bay, a seller from Down under. I waited about a month for the thing to arrive. Suddenly on a sunny afternoon in December my wife called me telling me " some kind of brick has arrived..." I was over the moon. But when I came home, all hyped up, I ripped open the packaging material only to discover the first white and yellow crumbs.... My heart sank as I further opened the box and saw the blue container in shatters. Opened it up,........... Cracked..... Right down the middle..... I could cry, yell, kick the dog and howl at the moon! I was like a kid at Christmas morning having just been told that good old Kris Kringle didn't exist and there were no presents for me... I got myself together, mailed the seller what I discovered and three reimbursing process started.. So now I'm still without a Norton 4/8 and frowning ever since..... Yours truly.
