I just lay them in the grass, maybe give them a good stomp or two, although I have to confess I've been playing with some big rocks lately and there is a picture of my rock reducer earlier in the tread.

Ive found with slate that it is soft enough that a belt sander works well, and I have a 50 dollar tile wet saw from lowes that I use to make them rectangular without chipping them
Finally got a chance to lap the stone you sent me Rez. Hard as heck...feels pretty fine....no clue what it is stone wise though...or grit till I try it on some steel

the color looks off. It is in the slate family. It should be somewhere around 12K. Some of them are super aggressive cutters and are best used with slurry or oil or soap or smiths.
Its lighter than the pictures show, camera phone sucks
I'm curious what you'll be able to do with it. Try it with a moderate slurry after a 1K and with soap after an 8K
Will do, ill let ya know tomorrow, ill dig out something with a wide bevel and see what it does
Gonna try and get one of these done for ya rez. Actually sun out for some good pics...LOL....the hone I made a while back....love this stone
