definitely The chosera is a better stone, but the King is not a bad stone. maybe you should have tried it with a little bit of slurry. If you like the Chosera maybe you should try the DMT 1200K I think it is faster.

Personally, being on a tight budget, a King 1K/6K, DT and King 800 are the only hones I've been able to afford. And, as I'd rather learn than risk losing a razor in our glorious Royal Mail network, I've known no different. Those three hones function perfectly well... my two framebacks, Kropp 5/8 and Solingen 4/8 all give shaves resulting in BBS finishes.

I guess if I'd have used a Norton, for example, my preferences would be different.

I personally use kings 1k and 6k and i am happy with it... I want to upgrade to new stones but not because i dislike the kings! I learned alot with them and being slow stones help when you are learning.... 1 year later and many good edges later i like most of us are looking for the ultimate edge! So thats why i am thinking on upgrading:.. Overall i think kings are great!

I've had good success with both the Norton 1k and the King. I use the King more for cutlery, and it may be a little softer (or just feel that way), but works great for bevel setting when flat.

I picked up a second hand King 1k/6k combo about 5 years ago to get me started and have been enjoying it ever since, never really felt the need to upgrade. I would like to try one of the big green bricks sometime but I suspect I'll wear through my 1K side of the combo first. Mine sees a lot of lapping as I switch between penknifes, kitchen knives & razors but thinking back, I bought the stone as part of a lot, it's one of the best, and cheapest, investments I've ever made.
