Default Another barber hone for identification

Picked this one up for $2.00. It was grayish black but after lapping turned a redish brown that you can see below. It says "King Barber" on it. The color change was really odd to me but perhaps this is normal. Any thoughts?

Barber hone is as barber hone does. Drag some steel over it and let us know.

Duly noted. I am going to have to experiment a little. I was curious if the color change was indicative of a type of stone or synthetic. I'll give it a whirl. It seems courser to the touch than some others I have seen. We shall see.

I have about 10 barber hones ATM. Make sure to smooth the lapped hone back out with some 1.5K or so. I find a little lather or just water is all in needs. Off hand I don't think I have seen a reveiw/opinion on where a "King Barber" hone falls in the honing progression.
The older I get the more I realize how little I actually know.
